The ILSI Research Foundation, founded in 1984, addresses critical issues affecting public health. Two important areas of research supported by the Research Foundation include prevention of obesity and food safety.
By supporting the work of the Research Foundation, you will help promote healthy eating and increased physical activity among children and adults in the United States and worldwide. Two of the programs currently funded by the Research Foundation related to obesity are:
- TAKE 10!® is an innovative teaching tool, designed to reduce sedentary time in the school day while promoting positive health messages about physical activity and nutrition. TAKE 10!® activities link academic curriculum requirements in math, science, language arts, and social studies with 10-minute periods of physical activity.
- The Healthy Lifestyles, Healthy People project is a pilot intervention project based in Latin America. It is attempting to promote healthier lifestyles, tackle the epidemic of obesity, and increase public awareness about obesity prevention.
The Research Foundation is also on the forefront of conducting and sharing research regarding food safety. In particular, it conducts research to improve methods for assessing risks from bacteria that can be present in food, such as salmonella and e-coli. These efforts lead to improvements in the safety of the food supply. The Research Foundation promotes the outcomes of the studies to educate consumers and food producers.
