The ILSI Research Foundation was formed in 1984 to create a vehicle for ILSI to support research. The Research Foundation helps ensure scientific credibility of all ILSI-sponsored activities by undertaking the responsibility to address critical issues affecting public health. It meets this obligation by convening expert panels, seminars, and workshops, through resourceful publications, and through both basic and applied research awards, underpinned by broad-based fundraising in order to adequately guarantee a diversity of stakeholders in ILSI’s mission and programs. Click here for a complete list of 2005 & 2006 publications. By supporting scientific work related to ILSI’s core interests, the Research Foundation enhances the Institute’s global reputation for scientific quality and impartiality.
The ILSI Research Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees who represent public and private associations world-wide. Scientifically the Research Foundation is guided by a Council of Scientific Advisors, whose members are drawn from the ranks of the world’s top scientists.
The Research Foundation is comprised of the following entities.
Risk Science Institute (RSI)
Center for Health Promotion (CHP)
Human Nutrition Institute (HNI)
Details on projects and programs that are unique to each of the three entities of the foundation can be found on their individual web pages. Currently the Research Foundation is conducting two programs that include more than one of the entities.
CARES, Cumulative and Aggregate Risk Evaluation System, is a state of the art software program designed to conduct complex exposure and risk assessments for pesticides, such as the assessments required under the 1996 Food Quality Protection Action (FQPA).
The Healthy Lifestyles, Healthy People project is a three-country pilot project in Latin America which is an initiative of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI), the Pan American Health Organization, Regional Office of the World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the development of sound obesity prevention approaches through diet and physical activity interventions in Latin America by 2007, by improving the quality of program evaluation and enhancing dissemination and replication of well-evaluated, effective health promotion programs.
